This Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement, also known CAVA or TAQA, replaces the A1\A2 and D32\D33 assessor awards. It is designed for assessors who are working with students completing a range of vocational qualifications from the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF); these include NVQ/Diplomas, Technical Certificates and Functional Skills.
When you enrol, you are provided with a logon to our online platform. This guides you through:
- Your induction and introduction to your qualification
- Some reading material followed by some questions you need to answer
- Some documents you need to upload
- What to expect when your Assessor carries out your workplace observation
Your Assessor gets in touch within 7-10 days of your enrolment to check you can navigate around the learning platform and to agree time scales with you to complete.
There are 3 mandatory units in this qualification:
- Understanding the Principles and Practices of Assessment
- Assess Occupational Competence in the Work Environment
- Assess Vocational Skills, Knowledge and Understanding
Candidates need to be at least 19 years old. There are no other formal entry requirements although you do need to be in a role carrying out this work so you can be assessed.
You also must also have access to:
- An existing centre with approval for the qualification you will be assessing in, and internal quality assurance procedures
- At least two learners you can assess
- A qualified assessor to mentor you through the program.

How easy is the online platform to use?
The platform has been designed to guide you easily step by step through the process. We have a dedicated Customer Service team in case you run into any difficulties who can talk you through how it works. There are also some helpful videos along the way to give you some hints and tips.
What if English is not my first language?
The qualification is completed and assessed in English although we will make every effort to accommodate any special requirements you have.
Are there any additional costs?
No. All registration and certification fees is included in the price.
I have dyslexia, is there any support available?
Yes – your Assessor will support you to enable you to complete this qualification.
How long will it take to complete?
This depends on each individual. The average completion for a Level 3 is 1-3 months.
Who issues my certificate?
This qualification is certificated by NOCN who will issue your certificate when you complete.
How long will I need to wait for my certificate?
The certificates are sent from NOCN and can take up to 10 working days. We will email you an electronic copy of the certificate as soon as we receive it.
