Why choose the L4 Certificate?

This qualification is aimed at those who audit or regulate complex premises and environments, for example large premises, shopping centres, sleeping accommodation, places of assembly and open air events.  This qualification is part of the knowledge and skills competency requirements of a Fire Safety Inspector, or an individual who can complete audits of all regulated premises including complex and high risk premises.

Whats involved?

The qualification is made up of 3 modules incorporating the five mandatory units of this qualification. The duration is 15 days (105 hours) classroom training plus self study and distance learning equivalent to 135 hours.

Module 1: Principles of Fire Safety (5 days plus self study)

  • Fire safety legislation
  • Human behaviour in fire
  • Causes and effects of fire
  • Fire detection and alarm systems
  • Emergency escape lighting
  • Fire safety signs, notices and routine
  • Extinguishing media
  • Fire safety management
  • Fire risk assessment

Module 2: Auditing Complex Premises (5 days plus self study)

  • Risk profiling of occupancy
  • Compartmentalisation and ventilation
  • Horizontal and vertical means of escape
  • Audit planning
  • External fire spread
  • Access and facilities for the fire service
  • Auditing premises

Module 3: Regulated and Licensed Venues (5 days plus self study)

  • Legislation and working with other enforcement agencies
  • Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMO’s)
  • Crowd behaviour, safety and control

  • Nightclubs and casinos

Are accreditation and examination fees included?

Yes –  course accreditation fees and certification fees are included in the course price.

I have a physical disability, what facilities do you have?

Our training centre in Chorley is fully accessible with the main training room located on the ground floor. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor and a wheelchair accessible lift to the first floor.

I have dyslexia, or other needs, is there any support available?

We can make reasonable adjustment to support your specific needs: Policy and Procedure for Access Arrangements, Reasonable Adjustments and Special Consideration

Is lunch provided?

Yes, within the cost of the course there is a buffet lunch, hot and cold drinks and biscuits for those attending in person.

What payment plan options are available?

If you would prefer to split the payment for this course you can pay in 2 or 3 instalments, as long as the final payment is made before you take the exam.  Please call our admin team who can set this up for you.
