Principal Designer |
Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety in the pre-construction phase of a project. This includes: Identifying, eliminating or controlling foreseeable risks Ensuring designers carry out their duties Prepare and provide relevant information to other dutyholders. Liaise with the principal contractor to help in the planning, management, monitoring and coordination of the construction phase. |
Contractor |
Plan, manage and monitor construction work under their control so it is carried out without risks to health and safety. For projects involving more than one contractor, coordinate their activities with others in the project team – in particular, comply with directions given to them by the principal designer or principal contractor. For single contractor projects, prepare a construction phase plan. |
FAQS
Can you help with a construction phase plan?
Yes. Compass can assist Principal Contractors with the development and documentation of a construction phase plan for any construction project. The construction phase plan will be based on the requirements as set out in the CDM Regulations.
Can you write a Pre-Construction Information document?
It is the responsibility of the client to provide pre-construction information – this could be in the form of an asbestos survey, drawings and plans, existing service information, structural reports and site investigation reports. We can advise clients what information is needed for the project and we can help compile this information into an easy to follow document that can then be distributed to prospective principal contractors.
Can you help with the F10?
Yes, Compass can assist the client with the notification of a construction project to the HSE using the F10 form. We will also advise you if the project is notifiable.

Why should I use Compass?
Compass have health & safety advisors and consultants with experience within the construction industry. Our consultants have worked in housebuilding, groundworks, highways, local authorities and shopfitting. Our Principal Designer, Paul Williams was involved with the distinctive Library of Birmingham project and the BBC Media City in Salford.
How will I pay for the service?
This will be agreed in advance. Depending on the nature and complexity of the construction project the payments may be staggered throughout the construction phase.
Do Compass have any accreditations?
Yes. Compass quality management system has been certified to ISO 900, our Advisors and Consultants are all members of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and our Principal Consultant, Debbie Williams is a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Consultants Register (OSHCR). Our Principal Designer, Paul Williams is a Member of the Association for Project Safety (MAPS).
Are there any hidden fees?
No. We will be open with you about what the fee includes and if you require any additional work this will be agreed in advance.
